Grange Hill, Long Gardens:

  • Coal Tit has been a regular visitor for 2 weeks now to the garden
  • Sparrowhawk (IShaw)

Valentines Park:

  • 12.30-2.30pm (Weather: Cloudy, liught drizzle, 11C, ground hard but damp)
  • 2 Little Grebe & 2 Great Crested Grebe on the boating lake
  • 12 Mute Swans (pr with 7 cygnets on the boating lake, another adult was also present, until the family of 9 chased it off, when it oved over the the fish pond, where it joined the other pair.
  • 3 Greylag Geese including 2 hybrid birds, many Canada Geese, 4 Egyptian Geese (2 on Long Water and 2 grazing)
  • Mallard & Tufted Duck, 2 male (eclipse plumage) Shoveler (1 on each lake), 3 Pochard (2m 1f on the boating lake), Moorhen, Coot,
  • Black Headed Gull flock probably included the Mediterranean Gull, but he could not be located due to the number of people feeding the gulls, there were 3 Common Gulls however (2 adult, 1 first winter)
  • Feral Pigeon, 1 Stock Dove, Woodpigeons, 2 Collared Doves
  • 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpecker (1 being driven off by a crow)
  • 5 Pied Wagtail on Melbourne field, 1 Grey Wagtail on Cranbrook Cut,
  • Wren, Dunnock (in the Dell), 5 Mistle Thrush, Robin, Blackbird,
  • Blue Tit, Great Tit, 8 Long Tailed Tit, Carrion Crow, Starling, 3 House Sparrow (Brisbane Road Hedges), 5 Chaffinch, 4 Greenfinch (2m, 2f), 3 Goldfinch (Mike Condon)

Wanstead Flats:

  • (07:00-10:00): Brambling, 28+ Chaffinch, Lesser Redpoll, 5 Goldfinch, 9 Greenfinch, 5 Reed Bunting,
  • 5 Redwing, 8+ Blackbird, 4 Song Thrush, 13 Mistle Thrush, many Robin,
  • 6 Meadow Pipit, 8 Pied Wagtail,
  • 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest, c.100 + Long Tailed Tit,
  • 2 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall and not much else bar the usuals (NC)


Wanstead Park:

  • c 10+ Goldcrest, 3 Chiffchaff,
  • c.200-300 Long Tailed Tit, 2 Coal Tit,
  • 47 Gadwall (all bar 2 on the ornamental waters), pr Teal, 31 Tufted Duck, c. 20 Pochard,
  • 4 Grey Wagtail, 1 Pied Wagtail,
  • 4 Cormorant, 3 Sparrowhawk, 30 + Blackbird, 1 Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, many Robin, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Grey Heron, 12 + Ring Necked Parakeet and some other stuff (NC) :
