Pochard: Resident Breeding (more common in winter)

Over 100 Pochard winter in the borough from October to March, small numbers on non-breeding individuals may remain throughout the year and breeding occurs in small numbers.

2010 Breeding:

• Fairlop Gravel Works, 1 pair with 8 ducklings

2010 Winter Stats: 115 (24 less than last winter, peak count at each site)

• Wanstead Park - 19
• Valentines Park - 24
• Fairlop Waters - 48
• Hainault Forest - 11
• Wanstead Flats - 5
• South Park - 4
• Eagle Pond - 3
• Goodmayes Park - 1

2009 Breeding Records:

• Fairlop Gravel Works, 1 pair with 6 ducklings.
• South Park, 1 pair with 6 ducklings.
• Valentines Park, 1 pair hatched 8 ducklings, but all were sadly 'crow-feed'.

• Wanstead Park - 70 (mostly on Heronry Pond)
• Fairlop Waters - 41 (mostly on the gravel works, also boating lake and fishing lake)
• Hainault Forest CP - 10
• Wanstead Flats - 7 (Jubilee Pond)
• South Park - 5
• Eagle Pond - 3
• Goodmayes Park - 2
• Valentines Park - 1
