Tawny Owls can be heard all year round in Hainault Forest, Claybury Park, Wanstead Park and Bush Wood. Several pairs breed in the borough

Historical Information:

  • The Renger at Bush Wood, Wanstead reported that the Tawny Owls bred in 2009 sucessfully fledging 3 Owlets.
  • 7 pairs of Tawny Owl were reported as having bred in Hainault Forest in 2003 by the late Mr. Mike Dennis
  • In the 1997 edition of Dominic Mitchells 'where to watch birds in the London area' it states the dense woodland holds 8 breeding pairs
