July 4th 2010


Valentines Park:
  • Egyptian Geese still with 3 ducklings
  • Great Crested Grebe with chick riding on the back (GWare)
  • Little Grebe on the boating lake, and another on the fish pond
  • 1 adult Grey Heron
  • 12 Mute Swan - (family still have all 8 cygnets, and another pair on fish pond)
  • 1 hybrid Greylag Goose, Canada Geese, Mallards, Tufted Ducks, 1 male (eclipse plumage) Shoveler, Coots, Moorhen,
  • 3 Black Headed Gulls on the baoting lake
  • Feral Pigeons, Woodpigeons, 2 Stock Dove, Collared Dove
  • 19 Swift high over Cranbrook Road
  • Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker
  • 3 Pied Wagtail, Wren, 4 Dunnock, 2 Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Robin, Blackbird
  • Great Tit, Blue Tit, 4 Long Tailed Tit
  • 3 Jay, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Starlings, 5 House Sparrow
  • 2 Chaffinch, Greenfinch, 3 Goldfinch (Mike Condon)

Wanstead Flats:

  • More frogs at the round pond (and 2 biggies),
  • naff all except Meadow Pipits, Skylark, 1 Black-headed Gull and some Swift, too many people spreading their rubbish and setting fires... ...nearly forgot 5 Cormorant (joy!) (Nick -misanthrope-Croft).

Wanstead Park:

  • (aah relative peace!)
  • Hobby over Shoulder of Mutton on 3 occasions at dusk,
  • Sparrowhawk down by the allotments,
  • family of 4 Green Woodpeckers,
  • Chiffchaff, Blackcap, families of Whitethroat, c. 10 singing Song Thrush,
  • Great Crested Grebe (on Heronry), Little Grebe, Grey Heron, 3 Cormorant (woo hoo!),
  • 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull,
  • 3 Stock Dove, 1 Ring-necked Parakeet (Nick Croft)
