Woodford Bridge:
  • only 30 Mallard on the pond by St. Pauls Church today... with 6 Moorhens.

Roding Valley Park:

  • The Little Egret was in the same place as yesterday at 8.40am.... but was gone by 8.50am.
  • Cormorant flew north at Woodford Bridge.

Claybury Park:

  • 7 Great Spotted Woodpeckers and 3 Green Woodpeckers were present and noisy! (DEH/JM)
  • 9 Nuthatches also present in the woods. (JasonMoule)
  • Loads ot Long Tailed Tits, Blue Tits, Great Tits and Goldcrests.
  • Blackbird, Robin and Dunnock all in song and at least 3 Song Thrush.
  • 6 Chaffinches, 2 Goldfinches, and about 10 Greenfinches, with 4 Siskin. (DEH/JM)
  • 7 Redwing moving from tree to tree.
  • 2 Common Gull and 18 Black Headed Gulls, some with full black heads now!... (DEH/JM)
  • 2 Canada Geese, 4 Mallard and 3 Moorhens on the main pond. (DEH/JM)
  • Grey Heron (JM)
  • Coal Tit (JM)
  • 40 Meadow Pipit, 3 Reed Buntings and a Pied Wagtail (JM)
  • At least 2 pairs of Stock Doves dispaying and calling. (DEH)
  • 50+ House Sparrow (JM)
  • Also: Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jay, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Starling.
  • Tawny Owl (JM)
Valentines Park:
  • 25 Canada Geese, Mallards, Tufted Ducks, Coot, Moorhen on the Small Pond.
  • Greenfinches in the trees around the pond
  • 2 Mistle Thrushes making a noise
  • Large flock of Carrion Crows
Fairlop Waters:
  • Little Owl perched on a tree in the middle of the field east of the stables, (north of Painters Road, just after the bend at 5.30pm)
  • A quick walk round the gravel workings at dusk was very productive, (the southern site): 3 Mute Swans, 50+ Canada Geese flying in to 'roost'. 4 Greylag Geese (over) 50+ Teal, 22 Shoveler, 20+ Mallard, 4 Pochard, 10 Tufted Duck, Coot and Moorhen.
  • 3 female Pheasant (all flushed)
  • 400+ Lapwings, 100+ Golden Plover, 4 Green Sandpipers and 3 Snipe.
  • Skylark singing.
  • Barn Owl hunting over the site. (the first one i've seen anywhere in London!)
