Very good morning at the River Roding SW section. 1 Kingfisher (seen twice), 2 sparrowhawk sightings - not sure if the same bird or not. First time I was trying to take a picture of a wren when there was flurry of starlings and a hawk was about 10 metres above me right over my head. Complete failure to get a picture with the bird showing very well in the blue sky! Later on I found another sparrowhawk - possibly the same one - by the river again. It was in a bush and lots of tits and finches were flying around the bush making a big noise. Eventually the hawk flew off. I was about to go home when I saw Great spotted woodpecker in the small wood. So a very good morning. Also saw 4 cormorant, a Jay bathing in the river, gt, blue and Long Tailed tits, crows, magpies, robins, wrens, chaffinches, woodpigeons, starlings, blackbirds, song thrush. (Peter Gordon)
