Aldersbrook:
  • 6 Waxwing on Arran Drive this morning (Natalie Benajeh)
  • 19 Waxwings on Westmorland Close (Niel Twyford)
Fairlop Waters:
  • after being kicked off Hainault Farm the Redbridge Birdwatching group had a short walk around Fairlop Waters:
  • c60 Tufted Duck (including 54 on the fish pond), Mallard, 8 Gadwall, 2 Teal
  • 2 Mute Swan, 20 Greylag Goose, Canada geese
  • 5 Great Crested Grebes on the baoting lake (4 in summer plumage)
  • Moorhen and Coot, didnt count the gulls
  • c60 Lapwing
  • 2 Green Woodpecker, singing Skylark, Pied Wagtail
  • 6 Great tit, 4 Long Tailed Tit, blue Tits, singing Song Thrush, Robin and Wren, 2 Chaffinch (DEH et al)
  • 10 Linnet on the paddock (NT)
Hainault Farm:
  • couldnt do a complete ciruit as the farmer asked us to leave: but we had counted about 20 singing Skylarks and at least 10 non singers...
  • c30 Wood Pigeon, few Magpies and Carrion Crow
  • Blackbird, Robin, Wren, Redwing,
  • 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers
  • 4 House Sparrow on Billet Road
  • 2 Golden Plover in the field (DEH et al)
Hainault Lodge NR:
  • Goldcrest (Alan Thomas/Neil Twyford)
Roding Valley Park, South Woodford:
  • 2 Water rail! I've never seen any before - I saw one and that was good and then lost sight of it but saw another about 20ft away. I thought there was a pair but hadn't seen them together so I waited for several minutes and was rewarded - they both came together. Then one made a lot of noise and left the other one quickly (attempted mating?)
  • 1 Tufted duck - still there a couple of weeks on hanging around with some Mallards
  • 1 sparrowhawk scaring 2 or 3 big groups of pigeons
  • 1 Mistle thrush - Pretty sure I've not seen one there before.
  • 1 Goldfinch, Small group of Chaffinch
  • Lots of mixed tits
  • Blackbirds, Robins, Wren
  • Woodpigeons, Crows, Magpies
  • Moorhens
  • 1 Green woodpecker (heard, not seen) (Peter Gordon)
Snaresbrook:
  • Waxwing (John Archer)
South Woodford:
  • Kestrel hovered briefly over my road. (Peter Gordon)
Valentines Park:
  • pr Egytpain Geese still with 3 ducklings on the boating lake (Ian Cranston)
  • Grey Heron, Jay, 2 Great spotted woodpecker one on peanut feeder and one drumming , 2 Long-tailed tit, hybrid Canada goose x Greylag (Brandon Anderson)
Wanstead Flats:
  • 20+ Lesser Redpoll (SSSI), 5 Siskin, 6+ Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, 2 Reed Bunting, 6+ Skylark (singing), 8 Meadow Pipit, Pied Wagtail, 10 + Redwing (many singing sub-song), Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, 11 Greylag Goose, 11 Shoveler, 10 Tufted Duck, 5 Gadwall, 1 f Pochard, 18 Mute Swan (Alex), Little Grebe (trilling), Goldcrest, Sparrowhawk (Nick Croft, J Lethbridge)
Wanstead Park:
  • Great Crested Grebe and Water Rail (Perch Pond) (Natalie Benajeh)
  • Siskin & Redwing (Neil Twyford)
  • Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Little Grebe, Grey Wagtail, Kingfisher, 2 Egyptian Goose, 20 + Tufted Duck , 10 + Gadwall, single figures of Shoveler and Pochard, 2 Teal over east, Lesser Black-backed Gull, numerous Siskin, 60 + Redwing (40 through the Dell going mad for Ivy berries), Mistle Thrush, Coal Tit, Goldcrest, Stock Dove (NC et al)
Woodford Bridge Pond:
  • 13 Canada Geese today (DEH)
